Hello Sean,
I’m reaching out with our latest on in-state tuition. This morning, the Presidents’ Alliance joined by (X) of colleges, universities and institutions filed a powerful amicus brief in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in support of intervenors defending Texas Tuition Equity Law, which allows eligible students, regardless of immigration status to pay in-state tuition at public institutions.
The brief emphasizes that voiding this policy, the longest-running tuition equity policy in the U.S. prior to the lawsuit, would inflict immediate and long-term economic damage on the state. It highlights that rescinding the policy could cost Texas more than $460 million annually in lost wage earnings and spending power, crippling key industries like education and healthcare.
I have been following your coverage of _(education related stories), and though this might be of interest to you. I also wanted to share our Higher Ed Immigration Portal which should be helpful for your story, with key data points on the 510,027 undocumented students in higher education across the United States.
Please let me know if you’re interested in covering this story, I’m happy to coordinate an interview with our in-house expert Diego Sánchez who serves as Director of Policy and Strategy at the Presidents’ Alliance. Diego can speak on the impact of undocumented students at the national, state and institutional level, as well as the long-term competitiveness effects this will have on the U.S. pipeline of skilled workers.
Diego is available on ___, ____.
All the best,
Matthew Lowman and Kenia Guerrero
